Jaime "Jai" Mills

I took my first dance class as a teen in 1995 at L.A. Trade Technical College in Los Angeles, Ca. After my very first semester I was bitten by the dance bug and knew I would be back for more. Soon after, I was enrolled in every possible dance class offered at LATTC including Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop and African. Being born and raised in the church I wondered why worship dancers didn't put as much effort into their craft. Did they not feel it was necessary because “God knows your heart”? or were they just not exposed to the wide world of dance. At that moment, I made the decision to offer inspirational dance classes to the community. Anyone who wanted to learn or perfect their craft are always welcome.

Jai's Philosophy & How it all began...

Over the years my desire for both God and dance grew. I took to the web in search of worship dance classes and to my surprise nothing was offered in the Los Angeles area. Because of my exposure to dance in school I fell in love with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Their dancers were simply amazing! This made me think even more. “In order to represent the Ailey name you have to be an amazing dancer. As a worship dancer I am representing someone bigger than Ailey, God. Why wouldn't I train just as hard as they do?”

That question alone is what inspired my very first praise dance workshop in 2006 under the name of Inspirational Praise Arts (IPA) right here in Los Angeles. My dance family assisted me with teaching classes and performances. I remember sitting at my computer at home and literally designing flyers, printing them out and personally mailing flyers to every listed church I could find. To my surprise the majority of them responded and wanted to send their youth to the workshop. Dancers I didn't know, dancers from out of town, dancers who were in search of the same thing as I was, classes specifically designed for worship arts. So many lives were affected by the simple desire to do more. I was overwhelmed with emotion as well as many of the dancers attending the workshop. Some of them gave their testimonies of how attending the workshop helped them in more ways than just dancing. It was so much more for them. I give all glory & honor to God. For the first time I felt like I was a vessel being used by him. I knew then that this was my purpose in life. The following year, I hosted another workshop and even more dancers came. This time it was so many dancers that we had to upgrade to a larger dance studio. We went from 15 registered dancers to something like 45 dancers on opening night. Again, Gods favor was on IPA. Since then I made a vow to keep God first and he continued to use me to host several successful workshop in the Los Angeles area.

Moving Forward

Although I have been away for awhile, my focus has not changed. I have been blessed to work with some amazing dancers over the years. My passion remains, to help promote inspirational and worship dance. Dance is not just a performing art. Martha Graham said it best “Dance is the hidden language of the soul”. I truly believe that. I have a much better understanding of this statement and found it to be true. Dance, like music, has the power to shift the atmosphere. I teach my dancers to bring the lyrics to life and reach those in the audience.

Be a vessel speaking life into others with your craft. This is my desire always and I continue to spread this message to all who will listen.

So who is Inspire Danz Co? We are an inspirational company of dancers who love the art of dance. Inspiration comes in many many forms. Our goal is spread a message of positivity by uplifting, encouraging and inspiring others through dance.
